The 2025 edition of the Igbere cultural festival has on Friday 3rd January, ended in a glamorous and colourful fashion.
The festival which took place in the 13 communities of Igbere, in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State was keenly contested but Eziama and Amaukwu Autonomous communities came tops following their colourful cultural displays.
Expressing his excitement, the Chairman, Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation, the organizers and sponsors of the annual event, Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, says the festival created a lasting impression for Ndi Igbere to continue to tell their historical existence and the protection of their precious cultural heritage.
He says, aside the fanfare, the festival promotes unity, social interaction and reconnection and above all a peaceful coexistence.
He commended the good people of Agbo, Eziama, Amaukwu,Amakpo, Amankalu, Ibinanta, Amaofufu, Ibinaukwu, Umuisi, Okafia, Ohumola, Amaoji and Amaiyi who he said presented spectacular and eye catching cultural displays.
Announcing the results on behalf the Chairman of the foundation and Senator Representing, Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the Executive Secretary of the foundation, Rev. Mrs Jemima Ola Kalu says Eziama and Amaukwu Autonomous communities came first winning the sum of 1 million naira to be shared N500,000 naira each.
Umuisi and Agbo Autonomous communities came second, winning the sum of N700,000 naira to be shared 350,000 naira each.
In the third position Amaiyi and Amaoji Autonomous communities won the sum of 500,000 naira to be shared 250,000 each
Amankalu and Ohumoula Autonomous communities came 4th and they won the sum of N300,000 naira to be shared 150,000 naira each while Ibinanta and Okafia Autonomous communities came 5th winning the sum of N200,000 naira to be shared 100,000 each.
Rev. Mrs Jemima calls on the President Generals of the 10 Autonomous communities as announced to urgently forward their community Union's National account to her for immediate disbursement of the monies they won.
The event which has continued to attract tourists witnessed various historical cultural and traditional displays of the Igbere Ebiri people.
